Gamma Breast Imaging

Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital Imaging offers gamma breast imaging. This special camera offers molecular breast imaging that improves the early detection of breast cancer in patients that have breast tissue that makes it difficult to diagnose the disease.

Gamma breast imaging allows physicians to see the breast more clearly and differentiate between benign and malignant tissue. The patient receives a trace agent that is absorbed in a greater amount by the cancer cells and displays as dark spots on the image. This technology is highly sensitive, allowing it to identify cancer in its earliest stage, as small as 1 mm.
