Cancer Rehabilitation

Cancer changes everything, but it shouldn't stop you from living life the way you want.

Rehabilitation at Methodist Hospital can help cancer survivors achieve and maintain quality of life during their treatment and after.  Our teams of physical, occupational and speech therapists work closely with your treatment team.

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapists work with you and your treatment team throughout your care in areas such as:

  • Balance program
  • Breast cancer therapy
  • Cardiovascular/strength training programs designed for individuals undergoing cancer treatment
  • Exercise programs to address range of motion and strength deficits caused by surgery or treatment
  • Incontinence/pelvic floor program, including sexual dysfunction
  • Lymphedema services
  • Muscle re-education for neurological deficits
  • Scar management

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists work with you to enhance skills of daily living and improve your quality of life through:

  • Lymphedema services
  • Energy conservation training
  • Evaluation of needs for adaptive equipment
  • Evaluation for safety in the home environment

Speech Therapy

When speech or swallowing are affected by your cancer or treatment, our speech therapists help through:

  • Pre-treatment counseling for swallowing conditioning during cancer treatment
  • Preventative swallowing exercises, including posture techniques and diet modifications
  • Direct swallowing therapy intervention designed for patient’s needs during and after cancer treatment
  • Diagnostic evaluations for swallowing function
  • Speech evaluation and treatment to address functional changes as a result of surgery
  • Pre-surgery evaluation and education for changes with voice
  • Voice therapy to address dysfunctional voice production
