Where are you located?
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
Your insurance company may require a doctor’s order. Check with your physician or call us and we will contact your primary care provider for you.
Is there a charge and will my insurance cover the cost of the service?
Yes, there is a charge for the class. Most insurance companies, including Medicare, do consider Diabetes Self Management Education a covered service. There may be co-pay and/or a co-insurance that you are responsible to pay. Check with your insurance carrier for detailed information on your plan’s coverage.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, we encourage you to bring a family member, significant other or supportive friend.
I don’t know what to eat. What should I be eating now before I come to class?
A packet of information will be sent to you after you register for class with basic information. Also, see our Sample Diabetic Meal Plan for some information on healthy food choices.
Will I need a blood glucose meter?
If you do not already own a blood glucose meter, one will be provided to you in class. You may want to ask your insurance carrier if there is a “preferred” meter that will allow for the strips be purchased at a lower cost to you.
