Diagnostic Radiology

Diagnostic radiology involves creating images of the body, its organs and other internal structures with external radiation. Diagnostic procedures can be used in orthopedics (hips, knees, shoulders), gastric intestinal procedures (small bowel or bariatric patients) or presurgical chest X-rays.

Nuclear medicine utilizes small amounts of radioactive agents, such as thallium or technetium, to examine various organs and their structures. These scans are used to diagnose, manage and treat medical disorders and diseases.

Methodist Hospital also has capabilities to use diagnostic radiology testing to diagnose scoliosis and the use of panorex X-rays to provide scans of the upper and lower jawbone or to diagnose head and neck cancer.

In addition, diagnostic radiology is often used to assist physicians during minimally invasive surgery.
