Spine Scans

CT scans of the spine can provide more detailed information about the vertebrae (bones of the spine) and other spinal structures and tissues than standard X-rays. This provides physicians with more detailed information related to injuries and/or diseases of the spine.

Types of CT spinal scans

Methodist Hospital offers these CT spine scans:

  • Cervical (upper spine)
  • Thoracic (mid spine)
  • Lumbar (lower spine)

CT scans used as a diagnostic tool

Conditions that may be diagnosed with a CT scan include:

  • Stenosis (narrowing of nerve pathways)
  • Back pain
  • Leg numbness
  • Fracture
  • Radiculopathy (pain, numbness, tingling or weakening along a nerve)
