Sara Kangas Is July DAISY Award Winner

Sara Kangas, RN, a nurse at Methodist Hospital, was honored at a recognition ceremony on Tuesday, July 16, as the July DAISY award winner.

Sara was nominated for the honor by a patient who complimented the entire staff on providing excellent care and wanted to especially recognize Sara for service and assistance "above and beyond the call of duty."

The patient called Sara his "angel" after a health emergency led to a brief, unexpected inpatient stay. He praised the way Sara provided prompt and efficient care coordination, expedited testing, arranged post-discharge appointments and warmly eased the stressful circumstances.

Describing Sara's care and caring, the patient wrote, "Sara was excited to help me, and we shared laughter as well. Each of us saw and shared a personal side, and for that I am so thankful. I will always remember this as a warm-hearted memory, and I would gladly have her care for me anytime if admitted to Methodist Hospital!"

In conclusion, the patient wrote, "I do hope she can be recognized for her actions in making my stay a memorable one. She is valued asset to the Methodist Health Team!"

The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. Nurses can be nominated by anyone, including patients, family members, physicians, supervisors or their peers.
