Melissa Buman Is April DAISY Award Winner
Melissa Buman, a nurse in the Labor & Delivery unit at Methodist Women’s Hospital, was honored at a recognition ceremony on Monday, April 7, as the April DAISY award winner.
She was nominated for the honor by a patient, a mother who went through an extraordinarily difficult birth experience.
"We knew the day was gong to be hard," the mother wrote, "because we had to deliver our son stillborn."
Her son had a twin who had been lost earlier in the pregnancy.
"Melissa showed so much compassion and helped us make memories on what seemed to be an impossible day to get through. We appreciated her ability to make me as the mother comfortable, and her attention to our son showed that she was so caring and deserving of this recognition."
The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. Nurses can be nominated by anyone, including patients, family members, physicians, supervisors or their peers.
