The Methodist Volunteers In Partnership (VIP) was organized in 1949 for the purpose of providing volunteer support to all members of the health care team at Methodist Hospital.
Today, the role of the volunteer has become a vital part of the entire Methodist Health System and a wide range of meaningful service positions are available to anyone interested in being a part of Methodist Hospital, Methodist Women’s Hospital, Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center, or Methodist HealthWest.
Methodist Volunteers In Partnership have opportunities to learn new skills, make friends, and gain the invaluable satisfaction that comes from providing support that is much needed and much appreciated.
Share your gifts of time, energy and expertise. Become a member of the Methodist VIP today!
VIP Service Areas
When you become a member of the VIP you have the opportunity to volunteer in a variety of areas especially suited to your preferences, availability, and enjoyment. We look forward to your support in one or more of the following service areas.
These volunteers provide valuable services to patients in their rooms, such as helping elder patients, delivering flowers, DVDs, mail, and emails, or offering coffee; or providing assistance to radiology patients and staff.
Information and Hospitality
Volunteers who enjoy greeting people and providing information and guidance are a part of our team who work at Information Desks and Patient Lobbies, in the Surgery Waiting Lounge, and who guide visitors to their intended location.
Whether selling candy and magazines or offering advice on apparel and jewelry, our Gift Shop Clerks provide an important retail service to patients, their families, and to staff. In addition, Gift Shop Buyers work closely with hospital staff on the purchase and inventory of merchandise for the gift shop. (All proceeds go toward the VIP annual funding designation.)
Volunteers who provide clerical support are vital to the day-to-day success of the hospital – from putting together packets and collating brochures to processing mailings. Volunteers in our Central Supply department fulfill order requests and deliver patient-related supplies as well as organize the material. Additionally, sewing support is always needed for projects such as pillows and blankets.
Specialized Areas and Groups
Many volunteers offer their service for a specific cause or specialized area, such as Flamingos for Hope and Reach to Recovery volunteers (cancer survivors and caregivers who provide support and inspiration). Methodist also provides volunteer opportunities in Hospice Care. Lay volunteer representatives are also needed to serve on various Patient Care hospital committees.
Our younger volunteers (ages 14-18) perform a variety of hospital support activities, weekdays after school. The Volunteen program offers a wonderful opportunity for career exploration and for teens to develop leadership qualities and make new friends.
If you know a teen who would be interested, print the application, complete and send to the Volunteer Office.
