Wound Care

Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE has wound ostomy continence nurses who direct, coordinate and evaluate patient care and offer prevention strategies for wound and ostomy care.

Comprehensive, individualized care plans provide treatment and pain control for acute and traumatic wounds, skin breakdown, skin tears and ostomies.

Types of wounds treated include:

• Diabetic and vascular wounds
• Incontinence associated dermatitis
• Pressure ulcers
• Burns
• Skin tears or lacerations
• Traumatic wounds
• Bariatric wounds
• Slow or non-healing surgical wounds

Inpatient prevention strategies include:

• Pressure ulcer prevention and protection
• Incontinence associated dermatitis
• Friction or shear
• Skin failure or breakdown

The certified wound/ostomy/continence nurses also provide pre- and post-operative education and counseling for patients who must live with a colostomy, ileostomy, or  a urostomy in their daily living.  Services include stoma site selection and care, assistance with dietary, sexual and lifestyle changes and post-discharge care and counseling.
