I-ELCAP Lung Cancer Screening Study

In 1992, a group of physicians from Cornell  University Medical  Center (now Weill Medical College of Cornell University) joined forces with specialists and lung cancer experts from around the world to develop a more accurate way to detect lung cancer in its earliest stage by using CT imaging. In 1993, the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program (I-ELCAP) was born. The mission of I-ELCAP is to achieve early diagnosis, treatment, and ultimate cure of lung cancer.

Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center is the only facility in the region to offer the
I-ELCAP screening study for early detection of lung cancer using low-dose, non-contrast Computed Tomography (CT) chest imaging. This clinical trial is available for individuals over the age of 40 who are current or former smokers. Others with an increased risk for lung cancer, including those with significant exposure to secondhand smoke, or have a family history of lung cancer are also eligible to participate.

For more information on the I-ELCAP study, call the Lung/Thoracic Oncology Clinic at (402) 354-5858 or toll free (888) 888-0506.  Also visit the I-ELCAP Web site at www.ielcap.org.
