Inpatient Occupational Therapy

When an injury or illness affects an individual's independence, occupational therapists develop a plan to help people of all ages live life to its fullest.

A Focus on Daily Living Skills

Occupational therapists focus on activities of daily living such as these:

  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Driving
  • Financial Management
  • Functional transfers (getting on/off the toilet, in/out of bed)
  • Home Management

Through education and retraining, the occupational therapist, patient and family work with an individually-designed plan to adapt to any new capabilities.  Home and environment modifications, the use of adaptive equipment and retraining may be part of the therapeutic plan.

Team Approach

Our approach to therapy is designed specifically for the goals and abilities of each patient. Therapists from several disciplines may contribute to the care plan. Some of the areas of a care plan may also include:

Rehabilitation

Methodist Health System provides both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation centers, led by a group of physiatrists, physicians with specialized training in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Methodist Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center
Some patients may require additional therapy following their hospital discharge. We offer a specialized clinic, under the direction of our physiatrists, where patients can receive rehabilitative services in an outpatient setting.

Methodist Acute Rehabilitation Center
Some patients require a more intensive, continued inpatient therapy program to rehabilitate their injuries. Methodist Health System is pleased to house an inpatient program, fully accredited by the Center for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
