Inpatient Speech Therapy
While hospitalized, speech therapists may perform comprehensive evaluation, and treatment for a variety of communication problems.
Adult Patient Diagnoses
Some diagnoses commonly helped by speech therapy include:
- Augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) system needs
- Chewing or swallowing difficulty (dysphagia)
- Cognitive-linguistic deficits, including impaired reasoning, problem solving and memory
- Language impairment (aphasia)
- Speech impairment (dysarthria)
- Voice disorders (dysphonia), including laryngectomy
Services
Working with each patient's individual needs, we provide:
- Assistance to patients in obtaining AAC devices
- Comprehensive clinical evaluation
- Modified barium swallow for dysphagia
- Patient and family education regarding the diagnosis and recovery prognosis
- Therapy for diagnoses listed

Rehabilitation Services
Methodist Health System provides both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation centers, led by a group of physiatrists, physicians with specialized training in physical medicine and rehabilitation.Methodist Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center
Some patients may require additional therapy following their hospital discharge. We offer a specialized clinic, under the direction of our physiatrists, where patients can receive rehabilitative services in an outpatient setting.
Methodist Acute Rehabilitation Center
Some patients require a more intensive, continued inpatient therapy program to rehabilitate their injuries. Methodist Health System is pleased to house an inpatient program, fully accredited by the Center for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
