First Days with Baby
Best Start for Moms, Babies and New Families
At Methodist Women's Hospital, we promise to do our best to see that you are ready to handle the challenges of new parenthood.
While your nurses will spend time teaching you to care for your baby, your best teacher is your own baby. We encourage you to enjoy this special getting-acquainted time and to fully experience the wonder of your newborn.
Here are a few guidelines to help you make the most of your time with us:
Spend as much time as possible with your baby.
We encourage you to keep your baby with you in your room. The more time you spend together now, while you have ready access to round-the-clock nursing staff, the more comfortable you will be in caring for your baby at home.
Make family time a priority.
We encourage you to enjoy family time, and the baby's father or the support person of your choice is encouraged to stay with you. We have provided a recliner and a fold-out couch to make overnight stays more comfortable.
Take advantage of rooming-in
Newborn nursery studies show that mothers and babies benefit greatly when they can spend as much time as possible together after birth, and Methodist Women's Hospital offers new moms a bedside bassinet for the opportunity to enjoy rooming-in with their babies up to 24 hours a day.
Remember that our nurses and nursery are available 24/7.
We are here to help you, and we are always ready to care for your baby.
Feel free to move around the unit.
Please feel free to move around the unit with your baby at any time. To ensure the safety of you and your baby, we employ Safe Place technology. This infant security system uses radio-frequency identification bracelets to keep babies safe.
Alarms sound if anyone cuts or tampers with a security bracelets, or if the bracelet comes too close to an exit door or elevator. Moms and their babies wear corresponding security bracelets that match mother and child throughout their stay.
