Your Baby's First Hours

Congratulations, you are a parent!

 

Assessing your newborn

Each baby is carefully checked at one minute and five minutes after birth on overall health.

Newborn weight and measurement

Your baby's height will be taken as well as weight. Weight is normally recorded in grams.

Assessing gestational age

Babies may be given a maturity assessment if the dates of a pregnancy are uncertain.

Newborn screening tests

Babies receive a simple blood test following birth to check for disorders that are not readily seen.
