Methodist LSVT Big and Loud Programs

Help for Patients with Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson’s disease impacts the lives of more men and women in the Midwest, including Nebraska and Iowa, than any other regions of the country. The disease can impact a person’s ability to walk, talk or complete simple tasks of daily living.

Those diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, movement disorders or neurological conditions, can now find help through the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) LOUD and BIG programs at Methodist Hospital.

The LSVT programs have become the gold standard treatment for Parkinson’s patients coping with speech and motor function issues.

Parkinson’s disease patients usually face complications such as:

  • Soft voice
  • Mumbled speech
  • Monotone speech
  • Hoarse voice
  • Motor function complications
  • Loss of balance

Our LSVT programs pair you with LSVT-certified speech, occupational and physical therapists who will work with you to enhance your quality of life.

LSVT LOUD

Research indicates that approximately 90 percent of all Parkinson’s disease patients will experience problems with their speech.

Our LSVT-certified speech therapist will work with you:

  • One daily therapy session
  • For four times per week (16 treatment sessions)
  • For a period of one month
  • To establish daily homework practice

The purpose of the LSVT LOUD program is to help you to:

  • Improve your vocal loudness
  • Improve your speech intelligibility

LSVT BIG

For those facing motor complications, the LSVT BIG program teaches Parkinson’s disease patients and those diagnosed with movement disorders and neurological conditions to use bigger movements throughout their tasks
of daily living.

Our LSVT-certified physical and occupational therapists will work with you:

  • One daily therapy session
  • For four times per week (16 treatment sessions)
