The Behavioral Health program offers comprehensive support and counseling services to adult medical patients and family members dealing with the emotional challenges that may accompany a cancer diagnosis. Behavioral Health team members teach coping skills and strategies to help patients gain the highest quality of life possible, whatever their prognosis. In addition the Behavioral Health program assists patients as they deal with healthy lifestyle changes, including weight loss, smoking cessation and stress management.

The experienced, highly qualified Behavioral Health team at Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center includes a psycho-oncologist (a psychiatrist focusing on the oncology patient), psychologist, psychotherapists and counselors. Referrals are made to other professionals and programs as appropriate.

In addition, confidential Behavioral Health consultations are available to patients during inpatient hospitalization at Methodist Hospital.

The initial outpatient Behavioral Health consultation with our counselors is provided free of charge to patients through the generosity of the Methodist Hospital Foundation and its cancer survivorship program, Harper's Hope. Inpatient visits and subsequent outpatient visits are billed to the patient's insurance.
