Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation at Jennie Edmundson Hospital and Methodist Hospital  provides inpatient and outpatient cardiac rehabilitation.

  • Inpatient cardiac rehabilitation begins while the patient is in the hospital, recovering from a cardiac event. Inpatient rehabilitation focuses on diet, exercise and smoking cessation.
  • Outpatients return to Jennie Edmundson or Methodist Hospital for supervised programs in fitness facilities designed especially for cardiac patients. Each session includes exercise with EKG monitoring and education on risk factor modifications, such as smoking cessation, diet, exercise, stress management and cholesterol management. Spouses are encouraged to attend these classes. The program is designed by a team of registered nurses, exercise physiologists and the patient’s cardiologist to meet the patient’s individual needs. Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance companies cover inpatient and outpatient cardiac rehab services.
Lifetime maintenance is the final phase of the cardiac rehabilitation process. Its purpose is to promote an ongoing commitment to the patient’s individualized plan while encouraging the patient to strengthen his or her exercise capacity. The maintenance program is available at several locations, including partnerships with community health and fitness centers.

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation also provides Heart Failure Management services to cardiac patients throughout the region. The program prescribes a comprehensive plan to help patients with heart failure manage the symptoms and to help them maintain an optimal quality of life.
