- Inpatient cardiac rehabilitation begins while the patient is in the hospital, recovering from a cardiac event. Inpatient rehabilitation focuses on diet, exercise and smoking cessation.
- Outpatients return to Jennie Edmundson or Methodist Hospital for supervised programs in fitness facilities designed especially for cardiac patients. Each session includes exercise with EKG monitoring and education on risk factor modifications, such as smoking cessation, diet, exercise, stress management and cholesterol management. Spouses are encouraged to attend these classes. The program is designed by a team of registered nurses, exercise physiologists and the patient’s cardiologist to meet the patient’s individual needs. Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance companies cover inpatient and outpatient cardiac rehab services.
