Specializing in the Diagnosis and Treatment of High-Risk Pregnancies

At the Methodist Perinatal Center, we know that expectant parents want pregnancy and childbirth to go as smoothly as possible. Accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, we are a full-service consultation, testing and treatment center for high-risk pregnancies. Most importantly, our perinatologists give one-to-one care, taking the time to explain and reassure. Other members of the team include registered nurses, genetic counselors and other professionals with expertise in perinatology.

Complications of pregnancy

The Methodist Perinatal Center offers diagnosis and treatment of maternal-fetal complications that may occur due to a mother’s pre-existing medical condition or develop during pregnancy, including:

  • Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Cardiovascular problems
  • Diabetes
  • History of previous complications
  • Hypertension
  • Incompetent cervix
  • Intestinal disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Lupus
  • Multiple gestations
  • Neurological disease
  • Preterm labor
  • Seizure disorders
  • Thyroid disease

Working to Keep Families in Their Communities

Our goal is to enable women to remain in their home communities and continue obstetric care with their own physicians whenever possible. We work closely with referring physicians and community hospitals in a four-state area to help families enjoy as normal and healthy a pregnancy and birth experience as possible.

Methodist Hospital is managing high-risk pregnancies by using telemedicine to connect patients and their health care providers in Norfolk to physicians specializing in high risk pregnancies in Omaha.

As a sonographer performs an ultrasound scan to check fetal development, the digital ultrasound images are transmitted back to Methodist Hospital where they are evaluated by perinatalogists. Teleconferencing equipment is used to establish an audio and video link between the clinic in Norfolk and Methodist Hospital so the physician is able to see and talk to the patient. Women are able to stay in their community and get the specialized care they need for themselves and their babies.
