June 28, 2012Nebraska Methodist Health System's Reaction to U.S. Supreme Court Ruling on Affordable Care Act
Date: June 28, 2012
From: John M. Fraser, President & CEO, Methodist Health System
The U.S. Supreme Court’s actions upholding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in its entirety will not affect Nebraska Methodist Health System’s immediate operational plans.
As previously stated, we believe that the American health care system has to change; the current system is not sustainable over the long haul. Over the past 24 months, we have taken action to better position our organization’s long-term viability, improve the quality of health care for our patients, and save them money.
At Methodist Health System, we are focused on four key points:
- Volume to value. We must move away from the current volume-based business model to a model that emphasizes value; higher quality of care at a lower cost.
- New care delivery model. We are focused on implementing evidence-based practices to guarantee our patients get the right care at the right time and the right location.
- Physician partnership. Alignment with our physicians across Methodist Health System is imperative to improving outcomes by ensuring efficiency.
- Cost containment. We must drastically reduce our operating costs to better align with anticipated future reimbursement levels.
