Nebraska Methodist College to Offer New Master's Degree Program

(OMAHA) - Nebraska Methodist College – The Josie Harper Campus (NMC) announced the launch of a new, master’s degree level program that will prepare graduates for leadership and management roles in the health care industry by focusing on the quality, productivity and efficiencies in the operations of a health care organization.

This new online Master of Science in Healthcare Operations Management program will be taught by industry leaders and provides a unique delivery method in that all courses will be taught in 1-credit, 4-week modules. This allows each student the flexibility to choose how many courses to take at a time and how quickly they complete the degree. The degree requires 32 total credit hours.

“Based on discussions with industrial partners in the Omaha area, we determined that there is a huge need for developing employees to lead and manage health care operations,” said NMC Vice President of Academic Affairs,  Paul Savory, Ph.D. “This degree is unlike other health care administration degrees in that it not only teaches a basis for management and leadership, but it also provides an application-based curriculum for managing the integration of people, processes and systems in a health care environment.”

“We also feel it was important to structure the coursework to allow working professionals the flexibility to maintain their professional and personal lives as they advance their education.”

The program will cover a number of themes, including: Leadership and Management, Healthcare Operations, Strategic Innovation, Healthcare Analytics, Healthcare Finance, Health Informatics, System Think and Risk Intelligence, Effective Communication Practices and Human Resource Management.

Sample courses from the curriculum include: Lean Strategies and Tools, Six Sigma for Health care, Healthcare Informatics, and Root Cause Analyses, among others.

NMC will begin accepting applications for the Healthcare Operations Management program in mid-October with coursework beginning in March 2013. For more information about admissions coursework and the program, visit
