Barb Birkholt, RN, is October DAISY Award Winner
Barb Birkholt, RN in the Critical Care Unit at Methodist Hospital, was honored at a recognition ceremony on Friday, Oct. 12, as the October DAISY award winner.
Barb was nominated for the honor by a family who’s loved one received exemplary care as a patient in the Critical Care Unit.
“Barb was a tremendous help to me and my family, as she helped us understand everything my husband was going through with each treatment he received,” the nomination said. “She was very kind and compassionate – singing a beautiful song at the time of his passing.”
Barb also made the patient’s birthday a special event.
“On the day of my husband’s birthday, she ordered a cake,” the nomination said. “She also made a card and had all the nurses on the floor sign it. In times like these it sure is comforting having someone as special as Barb to care for your loved ones.”
The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. Nurses can be nominated by anyone, including patients, family members, physicians, supervisors or their peers.
