Methodist Hospital has again been re-designated a “Blue Distinction Center” for spine surgery and for knee and hip replacement surgery by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska. Methodist was first named a Blue Distinction Center for spine surgery, knee and hip replacement in 2010.
The Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program awards medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality specialty care. Research has confirmed the newly designated Blue Distinction Centers demonstrate better quality and improved outcomes for patients, with lower rates of complications and readmissions than their peers.
“This designation recognizes the collaborative efforts of our orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, nurses, rehabilitation staff, physical therapists, anesthesiologists and patient safety professionals to ensure that our patients receive a positive, quality experience,” said Steve Goeser, president and CEO, Methodist Hospital. “For our patients, this translates into better overall outcomes, including shorter hospital stays, lower re-admission rates and fewer complications.”
Since 2006, The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska Blue Distinction program has been identifying hospitals that deliver high-quality specialty care. The selection criteria used to evaluate facilities were developed with input from a panel of expert physicians.
