About the Heidi Wilke SANE/SART Survivor Program

If you have experienced sexual assault or domestic violence, our  Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) and the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) are specially trained to work with you.

Methodist offers adult and teen victims of sexual assault or domestic violence a place to go where they can receive immediate, comprehensive and compassionate care as well as evidence collection from health care professionals specifically trained and educated to meet their unique needs.

What does the program provide?

We have designed an area adjacent to our Emergency Department to specifically help anyone who has experienced domestic violence or sexual assault. Special rooms and showers are available for privacy and to facilitate evidence collection.

The SANE/SART team members work with those who have experienced a sexual assault or domestic violence.

How the program started

Heidi Wilke was attacked and raped following a business meeting in downtown Omaha. Acutely aware of the special needs of sexual assault survivors, Heidi and her husband Jeff have been instrumental in the development of the first SANE/SART Program in the Omaha area. The Wilkes have worked closely with the Methodist Hospital Foundation to spearhead fund-raising efforts to endow the program permanently.
