Advanced Wound Care at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital
Many people suffer from chronic non-healing wounds due to injury, burns, bed sores or diabetic ulcers. Methodist Jennie Edmundson’s Advanced Wound Center is the only full-time Wound Center in Southwest Iowa that offers a 100 percent physician-driven facility as well as hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Our staff is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all our patients by aggressively managing wounds to ensure they heal quickly and completely.
We use personalized, evidenced-based processes, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat many types of wounds including:
- Chronic wounds
- Pressure sores and ulcers
- Diabetic ulcers
- Surgical incisions and slow or non-healing surgical wounds
- Wounds from traumatic injury
- Wounds from vascular disorders
- Arterial insufficiency
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for advanced wounds
Methodist Jennie Edmundson Advanced Wound Center uses Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to treat some of the most advanced wounds. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves breathing 100 percent oxygen while in a pressurized chamber. This increased pressure forces oxygen to be dissolved into the blood and body tissues, promoting faster wound healing.
The most common conditions that benefit from HBOT include:
- Slow healing diabetic wounds
- Tissue that has been damaged due to radiation therapy
- Certain infections of the skin or bone
- Problem skin grafts
- Crush injuries and/or slow healing post surgical wounds
