Level 2 Nursery
We know that the birth of a premature or ill newborn is an often unexpected and overwhelming experience. But at Fremont Health, you can take comfort knowing that expert care is right down the hall.
We have a Level II Nursery—which means we provide specialized care for infants born 32 weeks and up with a wide range of needs. Some of the most common ways we help include:
Assisted ventilation for up to 24 hours, along with Heated High Flow for babies who need additional respiratory support
Providing nutrition and nourishment through a tube down the nose or mouth until baby can feed normally
Stabilizing body temperature
Our state-of-the-art Giraffe OmniBed Carestations from GE offer a consistently controlled thermal environment to keep baby warm. Special technology minimizes temperature swings and provides uninterrupted heat during the transition from incubator to warmer. And it’s equipped with a variety of other features to guide baby’s development, including a 360° rotating mattress, full sound control and greater visibility and accessibility for parents. In addition, we use BiliSoft Phototherapy System to treat hyperbilirubinemia, a blood condition that causes jaundice. The special system provides healing LED light therapy, even while you wrap, feed and hold your newborn.
Care You Can Count On
The unit is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with pediatricians and nurses specially trained in promoting newborn growth and recovery. Our team also includes respiratory, dietitians and other experts who work together to meet your baby’s needs in a warm and nurturing setting.
Most newborns admitted to our special care are moderately ill and are expected to improve quickly. Should any complications arise, we arrange transfer with nearby Omaha-area hospitals and help coordinate all follow-up care with specialists, as needed.
Of course, parents are a core part of our care team, too. We are committed to keeping you an informed and active partner in your baby’s care, and are available to answer any and all questions.
Bonding with a baby in the Nursery is as important as bonding with any newborn. We encourage you to visit often and spend as much time with your little one as possible. Limited extended family visitation is encouraged due to introduction of infections during this transition period… ask your nursing staff.
As you prepare to go home, our team will provide all hands-on education and support you need to continue baby’s care. We’ll also check in to monitor progress and address any needs or concerns you may have.
