Our cardiology experts offer advanced testing and monitoring services to diagnose heart conditions, assess symptoms and create personalized care plans tailored to each patient's needs.

Diagnostic Testing

• Echocardiography (Echo): An echocardiogram uses sound waves to create moving images of your heart. This noninvasive test helps your provider evaluate heart structure, pumping function, heart valves and blood flow.
• Electrocardiography (EKG or ECG): An EKG records the electrical activity of your heart. It can help detect abnormal heart rhythms, signs of previous heart damage and other cardiac conditions.
• Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE): A TEE provides highly detailed images of the heart using a small ultrasound probe placed in the esophagus. This test allows providers to closely examine heart valves, blood flow and certain heart conditions that may not be visible on a standard echocardiogram. TEE tests are available at Methodist Hospital, Methodist Fremont Health Hospital and Methodist Jennie Edmundon Hospital only.
• Cardiac Stress Testing: A stress test evaluates how your heart performs during physical activity or medication-induced stress. It can help identify blocked arteries, abnormal heart rhythms and other conditions that may affect blood flow to the heart.
• Ambulatory Cardiac Monitoring: Portable heart monitors record your heart rhythm over days or weeks while you continue normal activities. These devices help detect irregular heartbeats, unexplained dizziness, palpitations or fainting episodes.

When specialized procedures or surgery are needed, our team coordinates care and performs thorough cardiac evaluations to help ensure the safest possible outcomes. We diagnose and treat a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, including:

• Heart Failure: Heart failure occurs when the heart can’t pump blood as effectively as it should. Symptoms may include shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling in the legs or feet, and difficulty with physical activity.
• Coronary Artery Disease: Coronary artery disease develops when the arteries supplying blood to the heart become narrowed or blocked by plaque buildup. It can increase the risk of chest pain, heart attack and other serious complications.
• High Blood Pressure (Hypertension): Hypertension occurs when blood consistently pushes against artery walls with too much force. Often called a "silent condition," it may have no symptoms but can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and kidney damage.
• Cholesterol and Lipid Disorders: Lipid disorders occur when levels of cholesterol or other fats in the blood become too high or too low. These conditions can contribute to plaque buildup in the arteries and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
• Heart Valve Disease: Heart valve disease occurs when one or more of the heart's valves don’t open or close properly, affecting blood flow through the heart. Symptoms may include fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness or heart murmurs.
• Heart Rhythm Disorders (Arrhythmias): Arrhythmias are abnormal heart rhythms that can cause the heart to beat too fast, too slow or irregularly. Symptoms may include palpitations, dizziness, fatigue or fainting.
